Monday Project Read and Spelling---Unit 24 Vowel Teams Review Lesson 1 Skill: -ie, Review Lesson 2 Skill: ai, -ay


Review what vowel teams are:

In this lesson you will study vowel teams.

Rules:


  1. A vowel team always has two vowels.

  2. In a team only one vowel speaks.

  3. 4 of the 5 vowels have vowel teams. The vowel u does not team.

Teacher will display the vowel team sheet 24-3 with –ie and ai, -ay vowel teams on the sheet.

Class will further review –ie by skywriting –ie and rereading words and sentences on worksheet 24-7.

For further review of -ie, teacher will place the story, “Raisin Cream Pie” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Class will further review ai by skywriting ai and rereading worksheets 24-15 and 24-17 (ai words).

Class will further review –ay by skywriting –ay and rereading worksheet 24-21 and rereading the story, “Lunch For a Chipmunk” that the teacher will place under the document camera. Students will reread and discuss the story. Teacher will leave the story up while students complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up the quizzes and students will discuss what answers they should have marked on the quiz.

For further review of ai and –ay, teacher will place the story, “A Bad Storm” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will also place worksheet 24-25, 26 under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the ai, -ay words and sentences. This worksheet will also be sent home for reading homework.

Class will read and discuss spelling words soap, boat, coach, goal, toast, throw, shadow, pillow, yellow, tomorrow. If time, permits, students will work on spelling homework---writing words 3 times each in alphabetical order.

Teacher will point these long o vowel team spellings out on block o card on wall.

Teacher will place worksheet 24-31 under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing the oa words. Afterward, teacher will model how students will be paired up and will fold their paper back and dictate 10 words to write to their partner and check their work afterward. Students will complete activity with their partner. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Off to the Park” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Class will read spelling words and if time permits, students will work on homework---writing spelling words 3 times each and sentences with words 1-5.
