Monday Project Read and Spelling—Unit 24 Vowel Teams Review Lesson 1 Skill: -ie, Review Lesson 2 Skill: ai, -ay, Lesson 3 Skill: oa, -ow, -oe


Review what vowel teams are:

In this lesson you will study vowel teams.

Rules:


  1. A vowel team always has two vowels.

  2. In a team only one vowel speaks.

  3. 4 of the 5 vowels have vowel teams. The vowel u does not team.

Teacher will display the vowel team sheet 24-3 with –ie, ai, -ay, oa, -ow, -oe vowel teams on the sheet.

Class will further review –ie. Teacher will display 24-5 –ie spelling and students will review by skywriting –ie and rereading words and sentences on worksheet 24-7.

Teacher will display 24-13 ai and –ay spellings. Class will further review ai by skywriting ai and rereading worksheets 24-15 and 24-17 (ai words).

Class will further review –ay by skywriting –ay and rereading worksheet 24-21

Teacher will also place worksheet 24-25, 26 under the document camera. Students will practice rereading and discussing the ai, -ay words and sentences.

Teacher will display the 3 o teams (oa, -ow, -oe), worksheet 24-29.

Students will skywrite each long o spelling 3 times each.

Teacher will point these long o vowel team spellings out on block o card on wall.

Teacher will place worksheet 24-31 under the document camera and students will practice rereading and discussing the oa words.

Teacher will place worksheet 24-33 under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing –ow words.

Teacher will place worksheet 24-35 under the document camera and students will practice reading and discussing –oe words on the sheet. Then students will work in pairs to dictate –oe words to classmate and check their work. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Joe’s Garden” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. Then students will work with a partner to reread and discuss the story by retelling or summarizing the story with their partner. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Students will skywrite the long e vowel team ee and teacher will point this spelling out on the block e card on the wall in the classroom.

Teacher will pass out worksheet 24-43. Students will practice reading and discussing the ee words on the sheet and work with their partner to dictate some of these words with their partner and checking each other’s work. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Honkers” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Class will review long I vowel team with skywriting and worksheet 24-7.

Class will review long a vowel team ai with skywriting and worksheet 24-15, 17.

Class will review long a vowel team –ay with skywriting and worksheet 24-19. Class will review both long a vowel teams with worksheet 24-25, 26.

Class will review long o vowel team oa with skywriting and worksheet 24-31.

Class will review long o vowel team –ow with skywriting and worksheet 24-33.

Class will review long o vowel team –oe with skywriting and worksheet 24-35.

Class will review all long o vowel teams with worksheet 24-37, 38.

Class will review long e vowel team ee with skywriting and worksheet 24-43.

Class will review long e vowel team ea with skywriting and worksheet 24-45 and by rereading and discussing the story, “At the Beach.” An oral reading check will be done. Teacher will leave the story up while students complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. Students will complete a spelling assessment over the following words: toe, doe, tiptoe, see, three, street, green, sea, beach, peanut.
