Project Read Oct 7-11---9:00-10:30

Monday---Unit 5/6 Lesson 1 Skill: k

Teacher will display the symbol c and ask what sound does this consonant capture? /k/

Teacher will display the symbol k and tell students that this letter also captures the sound /k/.

Students will skywrite k 3 times, providing letter and sound.

Teacher will display the following words and students will practice reading the words, using finger blending as needed.

Kit, kid, kiss, kill, kin

Teacher will tell students to noted that the letter k is followed by the vowel i.

Teacher will also display the following words for students to practice reading, using finger blending as needed.

Cat, cab, can, cad (bully), cap

Teacher will tell students to note that the letter c is followed by the vowel a.

The letters c and k both capture the sound /k/ but are used with different vowels.

Students will need to write these words down along with the noted rules above.

Teacher will place worksheet 5/6-5 under the document camera. Students will read the ca- and ki- words, using finger blending if needed. Students will trace over the beginning letter and vowel with a pencil.

Teacher will place worksheet 5/6-7 under the document camera. Teacher will dictate the following words and students will determine whether a c or a k needs to be in the place of the /k/ sound in the words: can, kiss, kit, cab, kill, cap, kin, cat, kid.

Spell Tabs: Students will head a piece of notebook paper with Spell Tabs at the top and name and date underneath. Teacher will dictate the following words and students will finger blend each word before writing. After activity, class will discuss how they should have written each word.---can, kid, cap, kit.

Then teacher will dictate the following sentence for students to write on the same paper. Students will repeat the sentence and count the number of words in the sentence. Students will finger blend phonetic words in the sentence if needed as they write the following sentence. After work on the sentence, class will discuss what they should have written for the sentence work.

The kid has a cap.

Teacher will place worksheet 5/6-15 under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story, “Kim’s Cap.” This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Tuesday---Unit 5/6 Lesson 2 Skill: -ck

Class will review k by skywriting, providing letter and sound 3 times.

Teacher will also place worksheets 5/6-5, 7 under the document camera. Students will read the words and discuss when to use a c or k in a word (ca-, ki-).

Teacher will place worksheet 5/6-15 story, “Kim’s Cap” under the document camera. Students will practice rereading and discussing the story, also noting the ca- and ki- words included in the story.

Lesson 2: Skill –ck

Teacher will ask students what sound c and k represent? /k/

When c and k are put together ck at the end of a word it also represents the /k/ sound one time.

Teacher skywrites –ck (dash, c, k, /k/).

Students will also skywrite –ck 3 times, providing spelling and sound each time.

Teacher will place worksheet 5/6-19 under the document camera. Students will practice reading –ck words and sentences containing –ck words, using finger blending as needed for phonetic words. Teacher will also ask questions pertaining to the sentences on the worksheet. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will display red words the, have, to and ask students why are these words printed in red? Words that cannot be sounded out. Red words break the sound-symbol rule.

Teacher will display the red word said. Teacher tells students that this word is said and provide the following sentence for word meaning:

Jack said he had a black cat.

Class will tap letter names on arm and sweep the word said down their arm 5 times.

Wednesday---Units 5/6 Lesson 2 Skill: -ck

Teacher will also place worksheets 5/6-5, 7 under the document camera. Students will read the words and discuss when to use a c or k in a word (ca-, ki-).

Teacher will pass out worksheet 5/6-23 and dictate the following sentences. Teacher says each missing words and students will finger blend the words to complete each sentence.

  2. A kid has Cal’s cap.

  3. Kim is sick.

Students will take this worksheet home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Dick’s Cap” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Thursday---Units 5/6 Skills: k and ck

9:00-9:45---Lexia Reading at computer room across from our classroom---login cards are in red basket close to computer by our classroom door

9:45-10:30---Project Read

Teacher will leave the story up for students to refer to while they complete a short comprehension quiz over the story. After the quiz, teacher will take the quizzes up and students will use the story to discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Teacher will place the story, “Jack” under the document camera. Students will read and discuss the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.
