Week 1

Continue to use the Interactive Whiteboard with the experiences introduced in Sheet 1




Learning intentions:

To be able to recall experiences

To be able to use the Interactive Whiteboard for purposeful play

To be able to touch each page in turn in Smart notebook to retell a familiar story

Adult Role:

Remind children of experiences of the IWB from last term

Support children’s spontaneous use of the board

Build on what they know and can do

To put a familiar story into the notebook using the scanner

Week 2

Use Smart recorder to record and revisit experiences
Encourage children’s independence in choosing what to use the board for by continuing to help them select from shortcuts from the desktop

Learning intentions:

To be able to recall and retell experiences

To be able to put photographs in a sequential order

To be able to use language to organise, sequence and describe events, feelings and experiences

Adult Role:

To support children in manipulating pictures

To scaffold children’s use of language to organise, sequence and describe their feelings and experiences


To involve children in recording and playing back their experiences or an event

Further adult skills needed:

To be able to use the Smart recorder to record children retelling an event such as an outing, cooking, role play or planting

To be able to retrieve the file and play through Smart notebook


Week 3

Using the digital movie maker with the Smart Board-exploring the camera


Learning intentions:

To be able to confidently explore the digital camera when it is attached to the computer

To be able to confidently explore moving the camera, identifying people or events and displaying through the Board

To be able to use language to interact with others, negotiate plans and take turns

Adult Role:

To support children using the digital movie maker


To give instruction on the tools of the camera on a need to know basis

Continue with experiences from Term1



Further adult skills needed:

To be able to attach the digital movie maker and load software

To know the buttons on the movie maker

To know how to use the first screen of the software, how to download files and transfer them to the permanent collection

To be able to delete files in the movie maker software


Week 4

Using the digital movie maker with the Smart Board-exploring the buttons on the camera and becoming familiar with taking short clips and seeing them played back



Learning intentions:

To be able to explore the use of the camera away from its base

To be able to use the video record or self timer understanding ‘first’, ‘next’

To be able to put the camera back in its base and to click the tick to download the video or stills


To be able to play/see the stills or video with adult support

Adult Role:

To encourage children’s confident handling of the video recorder

To instruct children on the use of the buttons on the camera on a need to know basis

When children can’t hold down the video record button and are attempting to use the camera for a purpose, teach them how to use the self timer to record freely
Continue with experiences from Term1

Further adult skills needed:

To become familiar with the digital moviemaker software.

Use the editing screen of the software; be able to add a collection of video clips, to add transitions and save.

Week 5

Using the digital movie maker with the Smart Board-to be more familiar with taking clips for a purpose and being aware of what will be played back

Learning intentions:

To be able to take movies with a purpose


To be able to look and listen to movies taken by themselves and by others

To be able to use language to recreate roles and experiences

Adult Role:

To provide a context for taking short movies: planting bulbs, cooking, an outing, a visitor, role play, a puppet show, making music

To make a combined movie that reflects children’s different viewpoints of an event
Continue with experiences from Term1

Further adult skills needed:

To be able to edit the children’s movies so they can be joined into one movie about an event


Week 6

Using the digital movie maker with the Smart Board-to be able to stop the play back at intervals and describe events

Learning intentions:

To be able to take movies with a purpose

To be able to look and listen to movies taken by themselves and by others


To be able to use language to recreate roles and experiences

Adult Role:

To play the movie through Smart Video Player

To stop frames of the movie and use to prompt discussion, can be drawn on if appropriate

Continue with experiences from Term1



Further adult skills needed:

To be able to use Smart Video Player and know how to stop frames and annotate


Week 7

Using interactive websites with the Smart Board

Learning intentions:

To be able to Click on a hyperlink to a web site

To be able to explore the maths games and use for sorting, matching and ordering

To be able to interact with a big book on screen within a group

To take pleasure in stories



Adult Role:

To support children in exploring what happens when they click on a hyperlink. Encourage them to revisit the site through the hyperlink so that they become familiar with this as a program they can choose independently

To support children’s MD and CLL

To introduce the big book in a group and to support the interactions

Further adult skills needed:

To be able to set up hyperlinks to appropriate web sites for children with Icons that represent the sites

To be able to explore the site and evaluate for appropriate use

Week 8

To have relevant information to share with parents on children’s use of the internet e.g. safe use, appropriate sites

To be able to pick out the main events of a story

To be able to retell a story using their own language and beginning to use the language patterns of the story


Adult Role:

To share a familiar story with children, revisiting the story and supporting the children in recalling the main events


To take screen grabs of the main pages of the story, those that depict the main events and to put them at the bottom of one page in Smart notebook

To support the children ordering the pages with their own retelling and play with the story


Further adult skills needed:

To be able to use the screen capture (introduced in Term 1) to take pictures from a web site and use them in Smart notebook

Week 10
Area of learning:

To develop children’s use of web sites using the screen capture to draw themselves and objects into stories

To be able to draw themselves or others into stories and to add objects through clip art and drawing


Adult Role:

To use the screen capture tool to import a key picture from the story into Smart notebook

To demonstrate to children how they can put themselves and objects onto the story through drawing and clip art



Further adult skills needed:

To be able to support children’s use of Smart Board pens and tools to draw onto a page using past skills e.g. lock to page, adding clip art, changing pen colours and line widths etc.
